Scuba's Ocean Odyssey VR

Educational VR game about plastic pollution, explored through the eyes of Scuba, the submersible.

Concept & Narrative

  • Created a cinematic trailer to visualize the game concept, engage stakeholders, and attract investment.
  • Inspired by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch; characters and storytelling highlight ocean conservation.

Asset Creation Workflow

  1. Sketch → Model (Maya / Blender) → UV unwrap → Texture (Substance Painter) using PBR workflow.
  2. Built main character "Scuba" (sentient submersible), hub/base station, water-jet cannon, and supporting assets.
  3. Modified store assets when needed; managed both custom and repurposed asset libraries.

Level Design & Optimization

  • Assembled and designed ocean-scene levels in Unity.
  • Sketched maps, shaped gameplay flow, and tested play experiences.
  • Focused on performance optimization while preserving visual fidelity.

Playtesting & Public Feedback

  • Showcased prototype at Play NYC 2018 with positive reception from children and parents.
  • Released for free on Oculus Rift & Rift S platforms.
